Domonkos
Hartmann
is a versatile artist of the young cellist generation, winner of the Junior Prima Award and the Zoltán Kocsis Award. Multiple Fischer Annie scholarship winner, winner of EXIM Bank’s ‘Határtalan Kultúra’ (‘Boundless Culture’) Scholarship program.
His mentors are István Várdai and Ditta Rohmann, who accompany him on his journey at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), where he still studies. His chamber music formation with Csabay Domonkos, the Duo Domo is a multiple international competition winner and audience prize winner in Lyon and Birmingham. Performers in prestigious European concert halls, such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the State Opera House in Lyon, the Palazzetto bru Zane in Venice, or the Altes Rathaus in Vienna. In addition to classical literature, their repertoire is defined by contemporary music and performing rarely played, newly discovered works. As a cellist of the Motus Quartet, founded in 2022, Domonkos has been able to stand on the stages of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, but they have already traveled to many parts of the world, from the USA to Taiwan. In 2025, they got awarded the first prize of the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar and they also won the special prize for the best interpretation of a piece from the Viennese Classicism.

Soloist and chamber musician
Domonkos performed as a soloist with several Hungarian orchestras in the country’s most prestigious concert halls, the Great Hall of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, the National Theater of Szeged, the Budapest Music Center, and the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall of the Palace of Arts (MÜPA). Domonkos is credited to having played several domestic premieres in Hungary, such as the performance of Nino ROTA’s first cello concerto with the Budafoki Dohnányi Orchestra, or the presentation of Rita STROHL’s Great Dramatic Sonata in the Solti Hall of the Academy of Music. Domonkos is a regular performer of the international Kaposfest and chamber music partner among others of Kirill Trussov, the Jerusalem Quartet, Lars Anders Tomter, Júlia Pusker, Kristóf Baráti, Liisa Randalu, Jennifer Stumm, Máté Szűcs and István Várdai.
Duo Domo
The chamber music formation of Domonkos Hartmann (cello) and Domonkos Csabay (piano), DUO DOMO, has received numerous domestic and international awards. In addition to the classical repertoire, the duo also presents exciting discoveries and contemporary specialities. In 2022, the duo won the first prize of the World Chamber Music Competition of Lyon (CIMCL), where they were also awarded the audience prize. The duo of the two Junior Prima award-winning artists can also boast of first place at the Birmingham World Chamber Music Competition (BIPCMC), as well as honorees of EXIM’s Boundless Culture program. Thanks to their success, they are now regular performers at well-known concert venues: they have toured the stage of London’s Wigmore Hall, Venice’s Palazzetto Bru Zane and Vienna’s Altes Rathaus, while in Hungary they have performed at prestigious events such as the KaposFest or the Cello Festival of Concerto Budapest held at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. Their first joint album will be released in the UK during the next season by Resonus Classics, and they will record the works of Richard Strauss, Thomas Adès, Nadia Boulanger and Máté Bella.
Motus Quartet
The Motus Quartet, founded in 2022, currently consists of Tim de Vries violin, Karla Križ violin, Erin Pitts viola, and Domonkos Hartmann cello. The four young people met during their studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) and decided to devote their young artistic years to one of the noblest genres, the string quartet, which in the first years involves extremely fine work and daily rehearsals. The remarkable string quartet of the young generation, mentored by Johannes Meissl, vice-rector of the mdw, has already performed in many parts of the world despite their short history. They made their debut in October 2024 in the Chamber Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, but have also performed in the Wiener Musikverein, Konzerthaus, in Taiwan, Tunisia, Italy, Denmark, the USA and Switzerland. Their teachers included, among others, Hatto Beyerle, Eckart Runge, the Jerusalem Quartet, Peter Schuhmayer, the Danish String Quartet, Tim Frederiksen. They are regular participants and performers in ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and Musethica sessions throughout Europe. In 2025, they got awarded the first prize of the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar and they also won the special prize for the best interpretation of a piece from the Viennese Classicism.

“Acknowledgement for talents with the power of shaping the future” – Since 2007, the Prima Primissima foundation has been supporting budding artists under the age of 30. The recognition goes to young people who show outstanding results, “who are the best among the good ones”. Domonkos received the award in 2022.
